May 5, 2009 Nyon, Switzerland Invitation to apply for the 2010 IOF- Servier Young Investigator Research Grant   Applications are now being accepted for the 2010 IOF-Servier Young Investigator Research Grant. The grant of 40,000 Euros, generously supported by Servier in cooperation with IOF, supports young scientists who are carrying out outstanding original research of international relevance in the field of osteoporosis.   The grant will be awarded at the World Congress on Osteoporosis 2010 (IOFWCO - ECCEO10)to be held in Florence, Italy from May 5-8, 2010. Grant applications are accepted from researchers 40 years of age or under at the time of submission. Further information, including detailed eligibility criteria and application forms, is available on the IOF website.   The deadline for grant applications is September 15, 2009.   The previous winners of this prestigious grant are:   ·          2008: Dr. Roger Zebazé for investigations aimed at quantifying and comparing bone structure and strength in pediatric subjects with distal radius fractures, with non-fracture peers matched by sex, age and pubertal status. ·          2006: Dr. Elise Feng-i Morgan, for work in the use of three-dimensional visualization to understand how spine fractures start and progress, and then to test models to predict vertebral fracture. ·          2004: Prof. Hong-Wen Deng, for the study of comparative genetics of osteoporosis in Caucasians and Asians (Chinese). ·          2002: Dr. Yunbo Duan, for work on the structural and biomechanical basis responsible for the racial differences in fracture rates between Asians and Caucasians. ·          2000: Dr. Freda Wynne for a project to identify the gene(s) responsible for susceptibility to low bone mineral density (BMD) in the Irish population and Dr. Luigi Gennari for the study of the genetics of male osteoporosis.   IOF encourages young researchers carrying out original scientific investigations in the bone health and osteoporosis-related field to apply for this valuable grant.   ENDS   The World Congress on Osteoporosis (IOF WCO - ECCEO10) will be held in Florence, Italy from May 5-8, 2010. www.iofwco-ecceo10.org for further information.
